The Blue Ridge Panthers Homeschool Athletic Association launched in 2006 with the vision to form a local athletic association to serve all our homeschooling families. Our endeavor started with the offer of basketball to all girls ages 10-18. In 2010 we added boys’ basketball team/teams for ages 10-18. Our future goals include the addition of boys’ and girls’ volleyball, softball, and baseball, and we are exploring cross country track also.
Our purpose has been to form the Panthers, (Homeschooling Athletic Association of the Twin Counties), so that anyone wanting to start, for example, a volleyball team can easily plug in under “The Panthers” and already have a tax I.D. number, lots of team contacts established, colors and logos established, checking account, etc. We want to make it convenient and relatively easy for other families to join us in other athletic endeavors. If anyone out there wishes to organize other team sports, please contact us, and we will be glad to help you make that happen. (Note: Volleyball is a big homeschool sport with lots of teams already established within our homeschooling network.)
Our vision is that the community will immediately recognize our homeschoolers because parents, siblings, grandparents, businesses, and the like will be sporting the Panther logo on sweatshirts, T-shirts, uniforms, jackets, etc., and we will experience a strong presence of Christian athletics – where sportsmanlike conduct, teamwork, and Christlikeness is the norm. This program is not just for the children of today but even our grandchildren who will be homeschooled. Our hope and prayer is that the Panthers will be known for their Godly character and our presence will be as strong as the Galax Maroon Tide, Grayson County Blue Devils, Carroll County Cavaliers, or the Allegheny Trojans.
We have been blessed to join with Joy Ranch Home for Children as we work hand in hand for the betterment of both groups involved. They have graciously allowed us to call Joy Ranch home to the Panthers, and we have in turn been able to help them with repairs, clean-up, and with our financial assistance. God likes to work that way – a win, win for everyone! We hope in the future to be able to help them in the restoration of the gym and its floor. Joy Ranch is striving to be a spiritual refuge for our community, and they are known for their love for others that goes far beyond the Joy Ranch campus. The Panthers have decided this is a cause we want to be a part of.
We would love to have your child join us. We begin every practice with a short devotional that the athletes themselves present. Keep checking the website for open gym/practice times. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us:
